Having a Go
The Memoirs of Sid Spindler
Australia’s post-war immigration program brought many remarkable people to our sea-girt continent, and Sid Spindler
was among the most remarkable. In this memoir, he records his upbringing in a Volksdeutsch family in Lodz, Poland (Part One),
his arrival in Australia as one of the first German nationals accepted for immigration, and his early career in Australia
(Part Two). He then recounts his part in the establishment of the Australian Democrats, his subsequent election to the Australian
Parliament as a Senator for Victoria, and his very active role in the Senate (Part Three). The book concludes with a brief
account of his activities after retirement from the Senate (Part Four), the writing of which was cut short by his death in
March 2008.
